You don’t have to look far in Southeast Asia for glittering beaches and great swimming opportunities. Starting in Thailand, probably the most famous beach destination in the region, you have a number of great beaches located on several islands. In the east is quiet Ko Chang, a stark contrast to the crowds of Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan, where the beaches serve as the most famous party scene in the region. On the other side of the Malay Peninsula are Ko Phi Phi and Ko Lanta, islands popular with backpackers wanting to escape the crowds.
In Cambodia, there are plenty of beaches along the country’s narrow coastline, but the islands outside of Sihanoukville, namely Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem, are the highlights.
Moving on to Vietnam, it should come as no surprise that with its long coastline, it hosts many great beach locations. Foremost among these are the island of Phu Quoc in the south, Vung Tao, not far from Ho Chi Minh City, and Mui Ne, Nha Trang and Da Nang further up the coast.
Finally, Laos, a landlocked country, might not be one you expect to offer tranquil and beautiful beaches, but among the roaring waters of the Mekong, the islands of Don Det, Don Khon and Don Khong do just that.
With all of these options readily available, it’s easy to see how South East Asia is a premier destination for those looking to escape daily life and enjoy a well-earned rest by the sea.
